The Cut is basically what happened when i went from “I noodle on bass with zero comprehension of music theory” to “I’m learning some theory and practicing guitar, but I don’t have guitar chops yet.” This album is all about raw feel, moodiness, vibes, and exploration. In 2021 I was 22 years old and had just discovered how to use a DAW. The music is unrestrained by any sort of creative direction, and it does not feature many guitar solos, as I was just beginning to familiarize myself with the instrument at the time. I don’t think I intended to make an album. One day I just woke up with a bunch of songs all recorded back to back and slapped a name on it.
